Jean Sadako King 1925 - 2013
Remembering Jean Sadako King
Jean King passed away the other day after a short illness. She was 87 years old, and is mostly remembered for being the first woman lieutenant governor and her liberal positions on women’s issues, world peace and being at the forefront of environmental issues. Jean was an early “Hapa,” the mixing of ethnicities that today we have come to take for granted. Her father was a Scot and her mother Japanese and Jean often recalled a childhood picking coffee on their farm in Kona where her Dad was the postmaster.
