2018 Council Report

ʻAnoʻai Kākou,

We send our aloha to Moku O Manokalanipō for hosting this year’s convention on Kauaʻi!

This has been an exciting year as each of our clubs have been continuing with their efforts to help their communities and their fundraising for our ʻŌpio to continue their education with scholarships.

Most importantly, our Council had our Inaugural Maui Council of Hawaiian Civic Clubs Convention this past September 3rd  at the University of Hawai‘i Maui Collage.  We had 25 delegates, two guests and one pua member in attendance.  During the course of the day we adopted 18 resolutions, 17 of which were submitted to the Association for consideration at this convention.   A wonderful breakfast and lunch were prepared for us by the University’s culinary department.  It was Labor day!  This was also counted as our 3rd quarter council meeting.

I am happy to report that our dear Aunty Edwina Cacoulidis still continues to improve in health.  A new Pelekikena, Keani Rawlins-Fernandes has been elected to the Hoʻolehua HCC.

I would like to acknowledge three of our Maui Council members in being recognized in different capacities. 1) in February 2018, Hailama Farden was designated a Living Treasure of Hawai‘i by the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawai‘i (Maui Council submitted his nomination), 2) Mr. Julian Ako received the Alumni Distinguished Citizen Award from McAllister College in June, 2018; and 3) Kumu Earl Kawa‘a received the Kalani Ali`i Award from the ‘Aha Hīpu‘u on September 8th, 2018.

I look forward to seeing you all at convention.  May Ke Akua take care of all of us thru this hurricane season!

Me Ke Aloha,

K. Holo‘aumoku Ralar,

Pelekikena, ‘Āpana ‘O Nāhonoa’o Pi’ilani
