2018 Council Report

 

‘‘Ahahui O Ke One O Kākuhihewa (Council) attended the 58th Annual Convention in Seattle, Washington with 24 out of 25 clubs.  

 

On November 11, 2017, hundreds came together to observe the centennial anniversary of Queen Lili‘uoklani passing - kanaka leaders, renowned musicians, esteemed hālau, and distinguished members of the Hawaiian community gathered at the Hawaiʻi State Capitol to commemorate Liliʻuʻs many contributions to our lāhui,

 

Our first council meeting at the Annual Makahiki Celebration on the beach of Waikīkī.  Holding and attending quarterly council board, general, association board meetings and retreats.  The Council electing new officers at their October meeting with an annual pre-convention caucus to review substantial resolutions.

 

The highlight of the council was our fundraising event on February 11, 2018 “Kekahi Kanaka Onaona,” - Prince Kūhiō, our Sweet Someone and founder of the Hawaiian Civic Club movement.  A sold out event at The Waikīkī Prince Hotel with ‘ono food, silent auction, a makeke, and great entertainment - Ben and Maila; Kuana Torres Kahele; Marlene Sai, Keauhou.

 

The council participated in the following activities this past year:  Annual Makahiki at Kapuailaula at Hickam Harbor Beach; 29th Legislative 2018 Session, 125th anniversary of the overthrow, oral/written testimony towards legislation, serving on commissions and caucuses; HART consulting committee; political party participation; 26th Anniversary Ho‘okuikahi Services; Senator Akaka service at the State Capitol; 98th Annual Kamehameha Schools Song Contest; participated and planned the Prince Kūhiō Parade through Waikīkī and the Ho‘olaule‘a and Ho‘ike‘ike at Kapi‘olani Park; attends services at Kawaiaha‘o, The Cathedral of St. Andrews, Mauna‘ala and ‘Iolani Palace honoring our Ali‘i; participate in monthly clean-up/up-keep of Mauna‘ala; working with member clubs on building capacity by training, strategic planning, protocol, investiture/installation of officers; King Kamehameha Day Parade, Aloha Festivals Parade; and protecting and providing comments to government agencies on our wahi pana.
