2018 Club Report

For 2018, the Papakolea Hawaiian Civic Club was instrumental in partnering with the Polynesia Arts and Cultural (PAC) Foundation for a $5,000.00 DHHL Grant and $73,810.00 Office of Hawaiian Affairs Cultural grant. The DHHL grant is for strategic planning for Papakolea Beneficiaries and Families. OHA Grant is to increase the number of cultural practitioners in the area of ʻieʻie basketry by providing cultural-based experiences through lectures, resource gathering, workshops, and promoting opportunities for the Hawaiian community to connect with their heritage. Participants learn by Master Weaver Uncle Solomon Apio how to make Hina'i, Mahi'ole, Papale, and Funerary Vessels at Papakolea Park.

Papakolea HCC also hosted Ka Hale Hou: Home Ownership Workshop at Papakolea Park. Two families were able to purchase fee simple homes in Waianae and Kahalu'u as a result of our workshops.

Papakolea Hawaiian Civic Club members also started a Papakolea Lei and Florist shop on the 9th Island of Las Vegas, NV.

Papakolea HCC is also held a Pupu o Ni'ihau workshop with Kuulei Kaohelaulii Akeo in which members learned through mo'olelo, mele, and Hana Noe'au.

PHCC kupuna members in the promotion of health and wellness have participated in Yoga, Hula, Tai Chi, Kupuna workshops, and Egan Inoue's Bootcamp!

Mahalo ke akua for the many blessings he has given our club this past year and we look forward to 2019! May God Bless you all!
